Acoustic Night - Co-ordinator

Do have a passion for discovering new music and singer-songwriters?  Are you interested in gaining event management and marketing experience? LU Arts is offering a current student £500 to organise two Acoustic Nights as part of LU Arts’ Happy Monday slot in Cognito.

LU Arts introduced Acoustic Nights in the 2016-17 academic year. The events resemble Speech Bubble, the poetry performance night where professional poets perform alongside students and staff. LU Arts is looking to continue these events to offer a similar model for singer-songwriters or small choral groups who would like to perform alongside professional musicians. We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated, and organised student to be the next Acoustic Night Co-ordinator.

About Acoustic Night
Each Acoustic Night features individual singer-songwriters or small groups performing in Cognito.  Each night consists of three sessions: a programmed session with performances by students, staff or local community members; an open-mic session when any spontaneous performances are welcomed; and a performance by an invited professional singer-songwriter.

Job Description
This is a fantastic opportunity to gain experience in event management, promotion, and technical support. It is also a chance to work and learn from professional artists.

In this role, you will be responsible for delivering two Acoustic Night events, one of which will take place in January 2018, and the other in May 2018. You will be required to find new professional musicians and invite them to perform at the events. Additionally, you will be required to recruit students to perform on the same bill and organise an open-mic slot for the night itself.

You will also be expected to promote the event both within the University and externally.  This will involve working with Design & Print to produce a range of printed publicity, as well as putting together a social media campaign.

To deliver each night, you will be working with the LSU’s tech crew to manage the venue and ensure that the lighting, sound, layout and any other venue-related features are sufficiently prepared for the night.

Support
You are not expected to do all of this alone. You will be supported by the LU Arts team in the marketing and promotion of each event.

Experience
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone interested in music and event management, or in exploring this potential career path. It is a great CV addition.

You may apply to undertake the role on your own, or with another person (the fee would then be split).

Person Specification

- Knowledge and an interest in music and discovering new singer-songwriters
