Creative writing classes
Our broad and engaging creative writing evening class covers character and story development, utilizing the senses, writing from life experience and much more!
Twice a year we run a mixed ability course, suitable for those wanting to learn new skills and writers looking to polish existing talents.
Evening classes
The topics covered during the course will include character development, utilizing your senses, writing from life experience and much more. The focus is primarily on fiction, but the skills you will learn are applicable to poetry and writing for screen and stage.
Please note that this class is not open to under 16s.
When
The course runs on Wednesdays 7-9pm for 10 weeks during term time (autumn and spring terms) and over the summer holidays (subject to tutor availability). The next set of classes will run for eight weeks from 24 January to 14 March 2024.

MHL 1.17a/b, First Floor, Martin Hall
Parking
There is parking to the side of Martin Hall on University Road (parallel to Epinal Way) or in Car Park 9. Visitors are now required to register their vehicle and pay to park on campus, including outside Cope Auditorium. There is a flat evening rate of £1 after 6pm. There are various ways in which you can register and pay:
· Download the APCOA Connect App (location code 2862)
· Pay for parking online (on arrival)
· Pay by ScanPay on arrival (please note that ScanPay charges a booking fee)
· By phone: 01895 262122 (location code 2862)
· By cashless pay machines on campus. At present the closest pay machine is in Car Park 9, which is on the opposite side of Epinal Way to Cope Auditorium.
There is an additional 20p surcharge that applies to each payment using APCOA Connect / Scan Pay.

How to book
Our mailing list subscribers get priority booking for our evening classes so being on the our mailing list is the best chance of getting a place. General bookings go on sale at 12pm on Wednesday 13 December 2024. Please use the button below to go through to the Eventbrite booking page.

Further details on how to find the room, parking, transport and more is emailed in advance of the first class to everyone who has booked onto the course.
Accessibility
There is step free access into the building and a lift to the first floor. There is a gender neutral and accessible toilet, located on the ground floor. We are committed to making our classes accessible to all.
If you have any specific access requirements or anything you would like us to be aware of when running the classes, please let us know via email LUArts@lboro.ac.uk prior to the first class and we will do our best to accommodate them.
Refunds and Cancellations
We will issue refunds for cancellations (minus Eventbrite fees) up to seven days prior to the first class, but no refunds will subsequently be issued unless a class is cancelled and cannot be re-arranged.
Tutor – Alison Mott
Alison Mott is a writer and story collector with many years’ experience leading creative activities in the community.
She writes memoir, historical fiction and non-fiction, children's fiction and educational materials for adults and schools.
Her work has appeared across a range of publications, online platforms and local presses, including The Guardian and Primary History Magazine.
Alison was Writer in Residence at Loughborough's Old Rectory Museum in 2018 and her book, Songster – Loughborough’s Own War Horse was published by Carillon Tower and War Memorial Museum the same year.
She has a Master’s degree in Creative Writing and is accredited as a writing coach through the Arvon Foundation and the National Association of Writers in Education.
