This year sees FREEFEST2015 extended to a week-long festival of student creativity from Monday 4 to Sunday 10 May. All events are free to attend and take place on the Loughborough University campus.

 As ever, the sunny bank holiday Monday promises a fantastic line up of bands and performances across two stages alongside a vintage clothing fair and stalls. We now welcome you on campus every day of the week to experience the full extent of creative talent.

All events are FREE to attend but some do require pre-booking. You’ll find the links you need in the programme listings below, tickets will also be available on the door.



Monday 4 May

FREEFEST – Bank Holiday Monday showcase – All day 

Live music and spoken word performances across two stages, a photography exhibition, stalls and vintage clothing fair. Plus the Circus Skills society, LSU Fever, will be flaunting their juggling, poi, diablo, staff, fire performance and hooping talents.


Tuesday 5 May

LSU Sing! Showcase

Cope Auditorium - 7.30pm

LSU Sing! is the Loughborough University Students Choir. Taught by volunteer student musical coordinators, the choir sings a variety of songs and often perform to fundraise for the local community. The choir will be singing an assortment of songs with performances from incredibly talented soloists.

Wednesday 6 May

Music Scholarship Concert 

Cope Auditorium - 1.15pm

Each year LU Arts awards outstanding musicians, who are currently students at the University, the prestigious Music Scholarship Award. This year, judges Trevor Lax and Aidan Geary awarded the prize to Leah Edwards on violin, Elizabeth Holton on saxophone and Jacky Fong on piano. Catch them at this concert; always a fantastic opportunity to hear a variety of music by very talented musicians.

Film screening - Ferris Bueller's Day Off 

Cope Auditorium - 7pm

Flix, the University's Student Cinema Society, presents this 80s classic. Ferris Bueller (Matthew Broderick) has an uncanny skill at cutting classes and getting away with it. Intending to make one last duck-out before graduation, Ferris calls in sick, "borrows" a Ferrari, and embarks on a one-day journey through the streets of Chicago. On Ferris' trail is high school principal Rooney (Jeffrey Jones), determined to catch him in the act.

Stage Society present Time At The Bar

Don’t miss the very last Loughborough performance of this fantastic, student-written play before it heads up to this year’s Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

Friday 8 May

The University String Orchestra

Martin Hall  - 1pm

The University String Orchestra will perform a cocktail of famous themes and a new commission, written especially for the ensemble.

Music Society at the SHED Live – 7pm

The Music Society is hosting this brand new music space on campus. Where else but a shed to host this relaxed and cosy event, located in one of our lovely University gardens! Enjoy an intimate, stripped back gig with acoustic music, a bonfire and a barbecue.


Saturday 9 May

Shakespeare in the Garden

Walled Garden - 3pm

After three sell out winter performances of ‘The Taming of the Shrew’, the Shakespeare

Society takes to the garden to perform in the sunshine. Expect mistaken identities, love triangles and devilish plans. It is Shakespeare after all!



Dance Show featuring Pole Fitness, Salsa, Rawkus, Bhangra, Bollywood and Belly Dance

Cope Auditorium - 7pm

A dance show featuring incredible feats of core and upper body strength from the Pole Fitness Society, extravagant veil choreography from the Belly Dance society and a show-stopping performance from the Breakdance society.

Sunday 10 May

Tuxedo Swing

Riggrut Lawn Fountain - 3pm

The Tuxedo Swing Big Band will play music ranging from 1920’s classics such as Glenn Miller’s “In the Mood” to funky numbers like “Valerie” and “Respect”. Round off the FREEFEST week with feel good music, perfect for dancing around the fountain!
