Illumination - a programme inspired by light in all its forms! Songs about the sun, the moon, the stars, a rainbow, and even lamplight. We are particularly excited to be performing Sunrise Mass by Norwegian composer, Ola Gjielo (www.olagielo.com), and look forward to introducing his music to the Loughborough audience.

Norwegian composer, Ola Gjielo's Sunrise Mass is in four sections - The Spheres, Sunrise, The City and Identity. He himself wrote about the piece: "I wanted the musical development of the Mass to evolve from transparent and spacey, through increasing emotion and movement, to something solid and grounded - as a metaphor for human development from child to adult, for a spiritual journey, or the creative process itself." It is written for chorus and string orchestra; on this occasion, it will be accompanied by the choir's pianist, Eleonora Babitsky.

Other items on the programme range from Lux Aeterna, an arrangement for choir of Edward Elgar's Nimrod to Rule the world as featured in the film Stardust. When the sun rises from Bob Chilcott's I share creation, Don Mclean's Vincent, Henry Mancini's Moon River and Howard Goodall's setting of Lead, kindly light will also feature and there will also be a chance for the audience to join us in Leaning in a lampost from Noel Gay's Me and my girl. It's not an exhaustive list of music inspired by the sun, the stars, the moon, and lighting in general but there's quite a selection; please join us for an illuminating evening!
