Tuxedo Swing is the official LSU big band, comprised of current and alumni members. We play everything from Big Band standards including 'In The Mood', 'Sing Sing Sing' and 'Fly Me To The Moon', through to more modern adaptations, like 'Uptown Funk'.
We play for weddings, functions, hall balls, society nights, departmental events and many other social and private functions. You name it, we'll probably have played it! We predominantly perform in the East Midlands, but have played as far away as Taunton (Somerset) and for the likes of BBC Children in Need. If you are looking for a professional, high quality student band in the Leicestershire area with a large repertoire then drop an email to email@example.com
We are a performing society and band, devoted to performing big band pieces in styles such as jazz, funk, and soul. We rehearse on Mondays at the Cope Auditorium from 7pm during term times, these are open to anyone; there is no requirement to have reached a certain standard, you just need to feel comfortable with the music you are playing.
We have music for Alto Sax, Tenor Sax, Bari Sax, Trumpet, Trombone, Piano, Bass, Guitar and Drums, so if you play any of these instruments, or instruments in the same tuning, then you are more than welcome (there are no auditions!). We also include singers into the group, with a wide range of vocal numbers. Singers are auditioned at the start of each academic year. At any one time, we will normally have 2 male and 2 female vocalists, who take turns to accompany us out to performing events.
