University Choir

University Choir

The University Choir is open to all staff and students of the University, and to members of the public aged 16 and over. The choir meets every Monday evening during term time from 7pm to 9pm in the Cope Auditorium. Each year the Choir gives two or three public performances, including their annual Christmas and Spring concerts. New members are welcome to join for free at any time!

The String Orchestra meets every Tuesday from 7pm to 9pm to play music ranging from Baroque, Light Classical, Jazz and Film music. This year the Orchestra will also be performing together with the University Choir. New members are more than welcome to join!

Piano Practice and Rehearsal Rooms

LU Arts have a number of music rehearsal spaces available for staff and students to use free of charge. Located in the Martin Hall Building, they are equipped with pianos and can also be used with your own instrument.

Tuition and Classes

Music Tuition

LU Arts offers students subsidised music tuition in singing, piano, guitar, violin, flute, brass, clarinet, cello and saxophone. Students are selected through informal auditions, and eligible students receive tuition for a significantly reduced rate.

Each year LU Arts offers staff, students and the public evening classes in Painting & Drawing, and Pottery. Running two blocks of ten weeks, first starting in October and the second in January, the classes take place in the School of the Arts' facilities.

The DJ Society is a Society which teaches you how to DJ, no matter how much experience you have had. The lessons are taught by DJs from the Students Union itself as well as members who have had real club experience.

Flix is a cinema run for students by students, showing films every Sunday for just £1.00 for members and £2.50 for non-members, and with membership only costing £10.00 - Flix really is a club worth joining. The Stage Society is a thriving society with over 120 members, and is open to anyone interested in the theatre, regardless of experience. It provides the opportunity for members to be involved with and learn about many aspects of the theatre. As well as the chance to perform on stage, members can adopt technical roles to discover the experience of backstage work first hand. The most recent productions were critical successes and played to packed houses. Alongside the theatrical productions of the society there are also regular theatre trips, pub crawls, workshops and social events organised.
