Some of you may have noticed that the Market Town Corner recently had a noticeable makeover, but no need to worry; it was all in a good cause! Brand News, the commission delivered through a collaboration between artist Kathrin Böhm and designers An Endless Supply, has begun the series of participatory workshops that will see it rebrand the entire stock of local independent newsagent Ashby Square News.
As detailed in more length on the project page, Brand News intends to examine the impact of branding on our everyday lives and consider how it influences our behaviour. Throughout December and January, Kathrin and An Endless Supply will be running free, hands-on workshops which will invite participants to think about what makes a brand attractive to them, and then have a go at designing their own 'Loughborough' branded items. You can learn more about these workshops and how to get involved here.
As part of this commission, the interior of the newsagent has been replicated inside the Market Town Corner to form an ever-evolving installation - as items are rebranded in the workshops, the new packaging designs are applied to the walls to 'replace' the original product. This has already led to some creative reimagining of well-known items, and we expect many more over the coming months! This installation will be open for viewing from Thursday - Saturday 11am – 4pm from 3rd December 2015 to 16th January 2016.
Brand News will culminate in a day-long event which will see the packaging designs that came out of the workshops used to rebrand the entire stock of Ashby Square News. This day will function as an experiment looking at how branding affects consumer behaviour and how the reimagining of familiar branded products will affect their popularity.
As if all this wasn't exciting enough, we now have a Brand News Instagram account where you can find images of the rebranding process as it progresses - follow us to stay up to date with the Market Town Corner's transformation!
