Another surprisingly sunny Saturday, 19th September, provided the perfect conditions for our market mapping event with digital artist Lara Salinas. Armed with GPS recording devices, the participants teamed up to explore Loughborough market, visiting well-loved favourites and hunting for hidden gems. Upon their return, they transferred their experiences on to paper, sharing what they had found with the other teams and discussing the market's place in Loughborough life.
The results were colourful, imaginative, and noticeably varied - nobody had quite the same route, encounters, or reaction to their market journey. There were also suggestions galore about the future of the marketplace and its function within the wider town centre, as is to be expected from a Market Town event!
Lara then combined hand-drawn maps with the GPS data to create digital maps of the market as seen through the eyes of Loughborough's residents. You can find out more about how this was done, and see some of the final products, on Lara's blog here.
