Building Green was a series of commissions and events that aimed to increase an understanding of our relationship to the natural environment, and to generate greater discussion and debate around more sustainable ways of living. The programme comprised of three new commissions by Futurefarmers; Amy Franceshchini working with Myriel Milicevic, Rebecca Beinart and Nils Norman.
While each artist developed a different and distinct project each sought to re-envision our relationship to nature by offering new ideas and methodologies. Their creative activity was a tool that can be used to advocate social change, propose new systems and new alternatives.
Each artist took the University campus as their context. Futurefarmers explored cultivation with a plot of land on campus, Rebecca Beinart developed locally found yeast cultures, and Nils Norman looked into the planning of public space and our interaction with it.
Unlike other programmes this one did not respond to one particular academic or strand of research, but to the many areas of inquiry into issues around sustainability being explored across the campus.
